改編自中國四大美人之一「西施」故事。周朝敬王年間，吳王夫差攻打越國，越王句踐戰敗後淪為吳國臣虜。越國為卸下吳王心防再伺機復國，民女西施受越王之命，投身吳國以動搖夫差心智。夫差對西施寵愛有加，建館娃宮供其消遣，唯有吳國重臣伍子胥處處提防西施，並數度進言夫差莫荒廢朝政。當西施一步步令復國大計走上正軌，也是兩人必須死別之時。本片動員臨時演員十二萬人，耗時334天拍攝，是臺灣電影史上空前絕後的華麗史詩古裝鉅作。
King Fu-chai of Wu invades the Kingdom of Yue and imprisons their king Kou-chien. Undefeated by fate, Kou-chien brews up a plan to reclaim his kingdom by sending the mesmerizing Hsi Shih to corrupt Fu-chai.
