台灣人林家在琉球經營航運業，林父將船長大任交給次子宏海，期許他帶領家族事業更上一層樓。然而宏海卻愛上了仇家的女兒秀玲，不願按照父親安排，迎娶電視紅星芳子，致使父子關係生變。另一方面，秀玲誤信芳子在電視宣布的結婚消息而黯然回台，讓宏海自此遍尋不著。上一代的未解仇恨，讓宏海從家族希望淪為喪志酒鬼，這場有緣無份的苦戀，該如何收場？
The Lin family from Taiwan operates a shipping business in Okinawa. To elevate the family business, the father hands over his captain duties to his second son, Hung-hai. However, Hung-hai is in love with their rival's daughter, Hsiu-ling, and refuses to marry the famous TV star Yoshiko, whom his father has arranged for him. This leads to a rift between father and son. Misled by Yoshiko's televised marriage announcement, Hsiu-ling returns to Taiwan to avoid Hung-hai. Unresolved animosity from the previous generation transforms Hung-hai from a hopeful man into an alcoholic. What fate awaits these star-crossed lovers?
